55 Suffolk Street Update 08/30/21

Superstructure Work Begins for Lower Manhattan Tower

On Manhattan's Lower East Side, construction is moving along at 55 Suffolk Street. In development by Gotham Organization, excavation and substructure work is mostly complete for the 30-story, mixed-use tower. With that, the general contractor, Monadnock Construction, is now starting to focus on the superstructure.

In preparation for many tall tasks ahead, a tower crane is already assembled on-site. Fresh loads of lumber and rebar have also been delivered ahead of the construction of the lower stories.

55 Suffolk Street was designed by Dattner Architects and is part of the (CPC) Chinese American Planning Council's Broome Street Development plan. Standing at 310 feet tall, the tower will contain 366 residential units (including 93 affordable units), spread across 268,065 square feet.

In addition, the tower will contain 18,750 square feet of ground-floor retail and 38,914 square feet of office space. This office space will be used to house the CPC's headquarters. The total square footage of the building will be 315,521 square feet, and the project will cost around $235 million, based on the construction loan secured by Gotham Organization last year. Work is expected to complete in June of 2023.
