Tower Crane Erected Ahead of Queens' Tallest Building
General contractor, , subcontractor, Highbury Concrete, and rigging specialist, U.S. Crane & Rigging, have all shared photos of the recent tower crane installation at 42-02 Orchard Street in Long Island City. The site will soon be home to a 69-story, foot tall residential tower, which is to become the tallest building in all of Queens.
The crane comes at the perfect time, as foundation work is beginning to wrap up, with superstructure work set to begin any day now. According to Highbury, the job will require an impressive, 47,800 cubic yards of concrete and 6,700 tons of steel rebar.
Developed by , the tower will contain apartments. Most of these will be sold at market rate, with a select amount of units reserved for affordable housing. Tenant amenities are to include a swimming pool, a fitness center, and multiple lounge areas.
In addition to residential units, the structure will feature square feet of ground-floor retail space, and an enclosed, two-story parking garage, with enough room for vehicles.
The project site encompasses an entire block, which is bound by Orchard Street, Jackson Avenue, and Queens Street. Designed by , the development will total square feet. Construction is currently estimated to take until 2026.
