Trillium to open winter beer garden in historic Roslindale Village substation building
Trillium Brewing Company, proponent of last summer’s wildly successful Greenway beer garden, will open a winter seasonal beer garden in the renovated and restored Roslindale Substation in Roslindale Village. The indoor garden will open later this month and remain open through the winter season. Open five days a week, the garden will serve a variety of rotating draft beer options, accommodating open seating, community space and limited private events.
Boston-based Trillium will be the first occupant of the high-ceilinged main floor of the redeveloped Substation, a former MBTA electrical power facility that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “Beer aficionados will have the unique opportunity to drink Trillium’s award-winning beer in the Substation’s awe-inspiring space, with its 34-foot ceilings, 18-foot copper clad doors, 250-ton capacity gantry crane, and six two-story windows,” said Alia Hamada Forrest, Executive Director of Roslindale Village Main Street, in a prepared statement. The Substation’s lower level is home to a Craft Beer Cellar high-end liquor store, which opened in January 2017.
The Substation restoration project, dubbed Parkside on Adams and also including a new-construction building with 43 residential rental units, fully restored a building that was vacant since the 1970’s and has been key to the revitalization of Roslindale Village. “The Substation is such a unique and iconic space, in a welcoming neighborhood, making Roslindale a perfect winter home for the Trillium Garden,” said Trillium co-owner Esther Tetreault in a prepared statement. “We had a killer time with the Garden on the Greenway this summer, so we jumped at the chance to bring Trillium to another Boston neighborhood.” Trillium will also open a new two-story, 16,000-square-foot flagship brewery in mid-to-late 2018 at 47 Farnsworth Street, one of three historic Fort Point warehouses being repositioned to include new retail and office space.
