Two hotel towers proposed in Kenmore Square
Mark Development and Hotel Buckminster-owner Buckminster Annex Corporation propose to jointly develop two hotel towers in the heart of Kenmore Square. Together, the towers would contain 763 hotel rooms and 375,000 square feet of space. On property owned by Mark Development at 560-574 Commonwealth Avenue, a 24-story, 260-foot-tall tower would be built featuring 375 rooms with ground-floor retail. Across Beacon Street, on property owned by Buckminister Annex Corporation at 655-665 Beacon Street, a 19-story, 210-foot-tall tower would be built featuring 390 hotel rooms. Both buildings would feature active ground floors, and as part of the project, pedestrian-friendly streetscape improvements would be made. Mark and Buckminster have filed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to develop the towers with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) and will reveal additional information this Summer. The proponents will also seek to establish a Planned Development Area (PDA) across the sites in order to obtain necessary zoning relief.
