W. L. French begins site work at 249 Third Street, upcoming 84-unit apartment building in Kendall Square


W. L. French Excavating Corporation has begun soil remediation at 249 Third Street in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, the future site of an 84-unit apartment building. W. L. French’s scope of work at 249 Third Street includes an extensive health and safety plan that requires workers to wear Level C personal protective equipment (PPE), installation of steel sheet piles for support of excavation (SOE), drilled deep wells for construction dewatering, extensive groundwater treatment and, ultimately, excavation and disposal of 6,000 tons of Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) waste and 15,000 tons of Non-TSCA waste. W. L. French will continue work at 249 Third Street into the 1st quarter of 2018. Upon completion, 249 Third Street will feature 84 apartment residences ranging from studios to three-bedrooms and 1,540 square feet of ground-floor retail located in the heart of Kendall Square, the United States’ hottest life sciences market, steps from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
