NYBC Center East Applied Life Sciences Hub Update 06/15/21

Will DeBlasio Help Foot the Bill for NYBC Center East Hub?

New York City Mayor, Bill DeBlasio has just announced that the city will be doubling its spending on life science programs to $1 billion through 2026. At the same time, New York Blood Center is currently in the planning phase of Center East; their future 16-story Applied Life Sciences Hub on the Upper East Side. While it's not immediately clear which organizations will receive a cut of that funding, the mayor's LifeSci NYC initiative announced that it will allocate $300 million for supporting non-profit R&D facilities, and $200 million for constructing commercial lab space. NYBC (a non-profit organization) has stated that their new hub will allow them to conduct collaborative research far beyond the capabilities of their current facilities. While it still remains to be seen if Center East will be included in LifeSci's spending plan, it seems likely that the project will be a qualified candidate for consideration.
