Seaport Square Block L4 Update 05/30/19

WS Development Officially Breaks Ground on New Amazon Office Space on Seaport Square Block L4

Governor Baker & Mayor Walsh were on hand earlier this week for the groundbreaking ceremony for WS Development's newest Seaport Project, 111 Harbor Way (Block L4). While construction has been underway for a few months, WS took the opportunity to officially break ground on the upcoming 17-story, 525,000 square foot project. Amazon will be expanding into 430,000 square feet of new office space at the building, creating 2,000 high-tech jobs, in fields including machine learning, speech science, cloud computing, and robotics engineering. Michael Touloumtzis of Amazon told the crowd Amazon continues to expand in Massachusetts partly due to the strong talent pool here and his team is excited to expand into the high-tech new space sometime in 2021.

Yanni Tsipis of WS Development touched on the importance of the project in expanding the public realm with an emphasis on green space. Harbor Square Park will be a focal point of the future Harbor Way, a 1/3-mile public promenade that will connect Summer Street to the water’s edge – a plan conceived of by the world-renowned landscape architecture firm James Corner Field Operations, possibly best known for their work on Manhattan’s High Line.
