About Market Central (formerly Mass + Main)

415 Massachusetts Avenue, Central Square, Cambridge, MA

Upcoming approximately 308,000 square foot mixed-use transit-oriented development at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Main Street in the heart of Cambridge's Central Square. Market Central will construct 308 apartment residences and 17,000 square feet of retail.

Three new buildings will be constructed at Market Central including a 19-story, 195-foot tall "high-rise living" tower with sweeping Charles River and Boston skyline views, a six-story, 70-foot tall "innovation housing" building with studios and roommate units and a four-story, 45-foot tall "family housing" building at the rear of the site. Overall, Market Central will contain studio, loft, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom residences. On-site amenities will include a clubhouse, a fitness center, and a green roof.

60 residences at Market Central (20%) will be designated affordable. The project will also restore the adjacent three-story historic Apollo Building. Approximately 150 vehicle parking spaces and 360 bicycle parking spaces will be located on site; vehicle parking will be located underground. The Market Central site is located steps to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Central Square MBTA Red Line station. Market Central will be built to LEED Gold sustainability standards.

Market Central will open in phases, beginning with the 23-unit "family housing" building Union House, located at 47 Bishop Allen Drive, in Spring 2019. Full completion of Market Central is expected in mid-2020.

Twining Properties to Create 285 Apartments, Local Retail and Open Space

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Jan. 25, 2017 -- The City of Cambridge Planning Board last night approved a transformative development proposal in Central Square by Twining Properties that will add 285 units of mixed-income housing at the intersection of Mass + Main in Central Square.

“Mass+Main will create a vibrant new walkable urban place in Central Square lined with shops and restaurants and providing apartments for singles to families of all ages and incomes overlooking Jill Rhone Park," said Alex Twining, CEO of Twining Properties.

The development, called Mass+Main, consists of two signature buildings designed by CBT Architects: one fronting on Massachusetts Avenue and the other on Columbia Street.

Mass+Main will be a highly sustainable, transit-oriented development with a LEED Gold certification and a green lifestyle. The project will include 20 percent low- and moderate-income units spread across the three buildings. The development will also provide new public walkways that connect bustling Massachusetts Avenue with the residential neighborhood that surrounds it.

Construction is expected to begin this summer. For more information go to Mass+Main.com
