About McCormack Public Housing Redevelopment

10 Kemp Street, South Boston, Boston, MA 02127

Upcoming redevelopment of the 27-acre, 1,000-unit Mary Ellen McCormack public housing development, which dates back to the 1930s, into a 3,000-unit mixed-income residential community. All existing buildings will be demolished and replaced; all 1,000 existing public housing units will be rebuilt, and 2,000 new middle-income apartments and market-rate apartments and condominiums will be introduced.

All new units will be of identical quality and will be integrated evenly throughout the development. Existing McCormack residents will have the right to return to the development following its’ redevelopment, and will be offered relocation options during construction.

The McCormack Public Housing Redevelopment will be constructed over four phases and is now under official review; the development will require Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) approval in order to proceed with construction.

Construction Cost $1,600,000,000.00
