About New Boston Arts Academy
174 Ipswich Street, Fenway, Boston, MA
Upcoming new home for Boston Arts Academy, a public school specializing in music, theater, fashion design, art, and dance. The $124.8 million new building will be built in place of Boston Arts Academy’s existing home, a former postal warehouse located across from Fenway Park. Boston Arts Academy will conduct operations within swing space at Dorchester Academy in Fields Corner during construction of the new building.
For theatre instruction, the new building will feature a massive auditorium with a balcony and catwalk, a smaller black box theatre and both film screening and storage rooms. Four dance studios will be constructed on-site, as well as a grand orchestra hall, a choral room, recording studios, piano labs, ensemble rooms and dozens of music practice rooms. A visual arts studio will include separate studios for 2D and 3D art, a photography room with a dark room, an exhibition studio and a computer graphics workroom. For fashion instruction, a large clothing construction lab will be built alongside a styling and design studio.
Additional amenities at Boston Arts Academy’s new building will include a learning commons area, a computer listening lab, a steam lab, two biology labs, two chemistry labs, a fitness room, private locker/changing rooms, a half-court basketball gymnasium, a roof terrace, and multiple classrooms and small discussion rooms.
