Upcoming 28-story Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) graduate student housing, office and retail tower located next to the Kendall/MIT MBTA Red Line rapid transit station in the heart of Kendall Square. The 290-292 Main Street tower is part of the larger MIT Kendall Square Initiative development, which will construct six new buildings containing approximately 888,000 square feet of office space, 115,000 square feet of retail, 450 graduate student housing units, 290 housing units and over 1.8 acres of open space.

The LEED Gold-certified 290-292 Main Street tower will feature approximately 450 housing for graduate students units ranging from studios to two-bedrooms situated above five stories of office and retail. Office space will house MIT’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship program and a new home for MIT Admissions. A childcare facility will be located on the building’s second level. A total of 10,304 square feet of retail will be located at the tower. Residents will have access to 242 long-term bicycle spaces, as well as vehicle parking in the upcoming 1,459-car MIT Kendall Square Initiative underground garage.

Two existing buildings will be renovated and incorporated into the new tower’s facade. The completion of the tower is expected in December 2020. The following are renderings of the 290-292 Main Street tower:
