250 Water Street Encounters a Setback
A mixed-use development proposed for 250 Water Street in the Seaport Historic District has encountered a hiccup in the public review stage. The application, submitted by 250 Seaport District LLC, was reviewed by the City Council, who then recommended modifications to the project plans. As a result, the City Planning Commission (CPC) must now review the application again, taking these modifications into account. If the CPC is happy with the changes, it will then be sent back to the City Council before being passed along to the Mayor's Office.
The 270-unit building is being developed by The Howard Hughes Corporation and would come in the shape of a 324-foot tower. The project has received a fair amount of community backlash despite receiving the approval of the NYC Landmark Preservation Commission. A Change.org petition was even created, which now has almost 9,000 signatures in opposition to the development.
