Abatement Begins for Brookings School Redevelopment

Built in 1925, the former Elias Brookings School is slated to undergo renovation into affordable housing units.  Originally closed in 2011, the former Elias Brookings School will now receive the rehabilitation needed to restore this historic structure. After years of planning, local non-profit developer Home City Development has decided to reinvest into the local community to provide high-quality housing for affordable pricing.  The building will hold 42 units, with dedicated housing units reserved for Springfield Residents.  As one of the first trades to begin work, ADEP Group Demolition and Remediation is currently working on the abatement portion of the scope.

Many pristine historic architectural features remain within this building, and efforts will be made to preserve these former school-house characteristics to maintain historic relevance.  The process of maintaining historic features in buildings such as the former Brookings School takes a great deal of coordination and skilled labor. As the construction manager and general contractor, Allegrone Companies has done an impeccable job in preparing this project to be another successful building restoration for the City of Springfield.
