Back Bay Station Redevelopment Takes Step Forward: BXP Signs Long-Term Lease

Boston Properties has signed a long-term lease with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to take over the western portion of the Back Bay Station garage, the next step in the process to bring to fruition the 1.3-million-square-foot project that the developer has planned around Back Bay Station. As part of the project, Boston Properties will begin work on station and concourse improvements including a a new connection to Stuart Street and expanded waiting areas and retail space. The first new building on the project would be a 27-story, 660,000-square-foot office tower to replace a portion of the parking garage at 171 Dartmouth Street. Plans for this development have been in the works since 2015 and were approved in 2017.
