DOER Releases Straw Proposal for Stretch Code Update and New Specialized Stretch Code

The Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources has presented their Straw Proposal for Stretch Code update and New Specialized Stretch Code. In a webinar held on February 8th, the agency outlined the changes with the full presentation found here. The new Base Energy Code is expected to go into effect in January of 2023. Per the presentation, key areas of future focus are to include curtain walls, glazing, air infiltration & thermal bridging, HVAC systems with critical importance placed on migration toward electrification vs. the use of fossil fuels.

The DOER will be hosting a series of public meetings between February 28th and March 8th to further review the code and public comments on the proposal should be submitted to stretchcode@mass.gov with the subject line “Stretch Code Straw Proposal Comments”. The deadline for comments on the Straw Proposal is 5 pm EST on March 9th, 2022.
