Florida’s Largest Rooftop Solar Installation and Largest Privately Owned Solar Array

SALT Energy, based in the Florida Keys, Installs the Largest Privately Owned Rooftop Solar Array in Florida for Badia Spices, Inc. totaling 3.24 Megawatts

SALT Energy, LLC recently completed the installation of a massive rooftop solar array on Badia Spices 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Sweetwater, Florida. This is currently the largest private, non-utility owned solar project in the State of Florida, as of February, 2023.

SALT Energy designed and installed the 3.24-MWDC system. The array is comprised of 40 inverters, 7,200 premium SunPower solar panels, and is capable of producing more than 3,240,000 Watts (DC) of power output, and 5,045,000 kWhrs per year of energy, offsetting approximately 80% of the facility’s electricity consumption. The system began operating on December 1, 2022.

Established in 1967 by Jose Badia, Badia Spices is one of today’s leading family-owned Hispanic food companies. Badia manufactures, packages, and distributes spices, seasoning blends, marinades, sauces, teas, health items and other products to more than 70 countries around the world.

"We are proud of our commitment to build sustainable and environmentally- responsible practices to help green our supply chain and decrease our carbon footprint." said Joseph (Pepe) Badia, President of Badia Spices.

This is the company’s second facility to undergo a transition to solar power. On August 30, 2019, Badia Spices began operating a 529-kWDC rooftop solar array installed by SALT Energy at its 100,000-square-foot facility in Doral, Florida.

Mr. Badia and his wife Nancy Badia also contracted SALT to install one of the largest residential solar arrays in Florida on their waterfront home in Miami’s Coconut Grove.  Leading the way in rooftop solar, Badia Spices plans to further decrease its carbon footprint by continuing to add solar projects to its other facilities in the coming years.
