Huge Development Announced by Prince George's County

The former hilltop hospital campus, referred to as the "44,000 acres of opportunity" will feature a variety of mixed-use residential, retail and entertainment projects. The new site will include a hotel, 40,000 square feet of retail, over 1,000 multifamily units, and a grocery store. The plans also include a dog park, and a sledding hill.

County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said "I'm particularly excited about this project because it will allow our residents to take ownership in this location renewing during the selection process," the country executive said. "The redevelopment authority requires a high level of minority participation in building and ownership and as a result, an astounding 40% of sponsor equity in this project will be targeted to minority and local businesses and individuals."

"It's important to note that this project is right in line with our economic development vision," Alsobrooks added. The county will benefit from the $500 million project and is estimated to add 2,350 jobs during construction and over 275 permanent jobs upon completion.

The project also features state-of-the-art facilities management, including energy-efficient buildings, green space, solar panels, native plants and air quality monitoring.
