Multi-Tower Housing Project Approved in Astoria

NYC's Department of City Planning has approved a major rezoning proposal for 3-15 26th Avenue in Astoria, Queens. The ruling came after the City Council voted 43-1 in favor of an application, seeking to facilitate an enormous residential project, known as "Hallets North".

Developed by Boris Aronov under the name "Astoria Owners LLC", the green-lit development will consist of 3-connected towers, standing 23, 31, and 34-stories tall. It will boast rental apartments, including affordable housing units and nearly 1,000 market-rate dwellings.

In addition to residential space, the massive structure will have 21,500 square feet of community facility space, square feet of ground floor retail, an enclosed parking garage with enough room for vehicles, and a bicycle storage area equipped to hold 525 bicycles.

The property will also feature 41,000 square feet of landscaped, public outdoor space, overlooking the East River.

Designed by , Halletts North will stand feet tall at its peak and total square feet altogether. The project comes as part of a large development wave sweeping Astoria's waterfront sections.

As a result of the approval, the  square foot project site will be rezoned from an industrial property to one that is certified for residential use. The zoning resolution also waives height, setback, and tower regulations in order to allow a building of this size.
