Otis House Development for Deaf Approved
A new multifamily and healthcare facility for people with hearing impairments has been approved for construction. The plans show the two buildings share a small plaza, and feature 16 one bedroom, 4 two bedroom and 2 three bedroom individual units, as well 16 bedroom studios (including one for staff) that share a communal living room, kitchen, and dining room.
There will be office and residential space for 24/7 staff on site, ample community spaces, a green roof, and an outdoor gardening area. It will also have a below-grade 7 car garage.
The design emphasis on community and resident engagement is evident throughout, and this innovative approach may benefit other shared-living projects, from student to recovery/post-incarceration housing.
