Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Held at YMCA/Middle School in St. Petersburg

The ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the Speer YMCA and Mangrove Bay Middle School in St. Petersburg. The YMCA will be open to members on December 18. The project, a collaboration between Pinellas County Schools and YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, is located on 62nd Avenue NE on the site of a demolished middle school.  The 111,757-square-foot complex will include a magnet middle school and a YMCA.   The school will have space for 600 students, featuring 15 classrooms, science lab, art room, music room and TV lab along with four exceptional student education (ESE) classrooms. The facilities will share a sports field, garden, science lab, dining hall and gymnasium.  The state-of-the-art YMCA will feature weightlifting and cardio equipment, exercise studios, lap pool, playground and childcare center.  Plans are for the YMCA to open by the end of 2023 and for the school to open at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
