Vertical Construction Nearly Complete at YMCA/Middle School in St. Petersburg

 

 

Vertical construction is nearing completion, and the project has cleared the final step of development at the Speer YMCA and Mangrove Bay Middle School in St. Petersburg. The St. Petersburg City Council approved the final replat plans, which include new easements and abutting right of way. The entry points were modified, the new plans that a portion of Pershing will be closed to prevent cut-through traffic by vehicles. The project, a collaboration between Pinellas County Schools and YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, is located on 62nd Avenue NE on the site of a demolished middle school.  The 111,757-square-foot complex will include a magnet middle school and a YMCA.   The school will have space for 600 students, featuring 15 classrooms, science lab, art room, music room and TV lab along with four exceptional student education (ESE) classrooms. The facilities will share a sports field, garden, science lab, dining hall and gymnasium.  The state-of-the-art YMCA will feature weightlifting and cardio equipment, exercise studios, lap pool, playground and childcare center.  Plans are for the YMCA to open by the end of 2023 and for the school to open at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.
