The Federal Plaza Shopping Center in Rockville is in the initial stages of redevelopment into mixed-use. The center, anchored by TJ Maxx, Planet Fitness and Dollar Tree, would continue operations on the site while . the Western portion of the shopping center, currently retail and surface parking, is demolished to make way for two buildings featuring up to 500 units and roughly 109,000 sq. ft. The development would also include a 702-space parking structure and a 22,000 sq. ft. “neighborhood green urban park.” The eastern portion of the shopping center, on an adjacent 11.5-acre parcel to the east including a Trader Joe’s, Ross and World Market would remain in operation during the two phases of construction.
