Affordable Housing Lottery Kicks Off for 1607 Surf Avenue

NYC Housing Connect has started an affordable housing lottery encompassing 375 units within Coney Island Phase 2; a new, 10-story residential building, going up at 1607 Surf Avenue (aka 2938 West 16th Street) in Brooklyn's Coney Island neighborhood. Eligible applicants must earn between $17,006 and $210,120 annually, or sit within 30 to 120 percent of the area median income (AMI). Applications will be accepted either online or by mail until January 5, 2024.

Developed and constructed by , the apartments will be offered in a variety of sizes, ranging from studios to three-bedroom setups. All of the building's units will be dedicated to affordable housing programs and approximately 57 units will be reserved specifically for formerly homeless residents. Tenant amenities are to include a fitness center, a children’s playroom, a party room, and a lounge. In addition to residential space, the building will feature square feet of ground-floor retail space, 9,000 square feet of community space, and a 2,500 square-foot, primary care facility, which will be operated by the New York City Health and Hospital Corp. Plans also call for an enclosed parking garage, with enough room for vehicles.

The project site sits just a block away from the beach and the Coney Island Boardwalk. Designed by , 1607 Surf Avenue stands feet tall and totals square feet. Construction is expected to wrap up by the Summer of 2024.
