John Hancock acquires two adjacent Back Bay office buildings for $100.5 million
John Hancock Life Insurance Company (John Hancock) today acquired the two adjacent 13-story Back Bay office buildings located at 535-545 Boylston Street, totaling approximately 184,222 square feet, for $100.5 million as recorded in the Suffolk County Registry of Deeds. The sale amounts to approximately $545.5 per square foot. 535-545 Boylston Street, located in Copley Square, last sold in January 2012 for $87.1 million to Clarion Partners and in March 2007 for $77 million to Westport Point Capital. Today's sale of 535-545 Boylston Street was first reported by the Boston Business Journal last month; other bidders reportedly included DivcoWest, Intercontinental Real Estate and Tishman Speyer. John Hancock will also soon start construction on a $350 million, 625,000 square foot Back Bay office tower located at 380 Stuart Stuart, across Copley Square from 535-545 Boylston Street.
