Facade Installation Underway for National Black Theatre in East Harlem

Brett Steinberg of masonry subcontractor, King Contracting Group NY, recently shared progress photos of the ongoing facade installation at 2033 Fifth Avenue; a 22-story, mixed-use development, going up in Manhattan's East Harlem neighborhood.

Developed and constructed in-house by, , the project is significant because the lower portion of the building (specifically the cellar level, parts of the ground floor, and floors 3 through 5) are set to become the new home of the National Black Theatre.

Spread across 25,000 square feet, the theatre will feature a 250-seat, flexible temple space, and a 99-seat studio theater.

The building will then contain rental apartments, branded as "Ray Harlem", spanning floors 6 through 22. A select amount of these units will be dedicated to affordable housing.

The development will also feature square feet of ground-floor retail space, as well as community-accessible event areas, artist studios, co-working and wellness spaces, communal kitchens, and a library.

Designed by , the topped out structure stands feet tall and totals square feet. Construction is ultimately expected to wrap up sometime later this year.
