Funding Approved for New Affordable Housing Community in St. Petersburg
The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners approved $3.4 million in funding for SkyWay Lofts II, a proposed affordable housing community in St. Petersburg. The money will come from the Penny IV Affordable Housing Program. Blue Sky Communities is the developer of the community that will provide 66 residential units. SkyWay Lofts II is phase two and will be located across from SkyWay Lofts, another Blue Sky Communities development, which offers 65 residential units. The City of St. Petersburg has committed $6.5 million in funding for the project in addition to the $3.4 million from the Penny IV Affordable Housing Program fund. The one- and two-bedroom apartments will be contained in a four-story building and will have 65 parking spaces, 34 on the floor. Construction on SkyLofts II is expected to start in May 2023 and will take approximately 14 months to complete. Pre-leasing will begin 60 days prior to completion, applicants on the waiting list for SkyWay Lofts will automatically be included on the waiting list for SkyWay Lofts II.
