Saint-Gobain Announces $28 Million Expansion of Its CertainTeed Siding Facility in Williamsport, Maryland

Saint-Gobain North America, through its building products subsidiary CertainTeed Siding, today announced a $28 million expansion project at its facility in Williamsport, Maryland. This project, along with others made by CertainTeed at the site, will allow the company to improve production and shipping capacity and significantly increase warehouse space in order to increase the availability of their complete siding portfolio in the Mid-Atlantic Region, aligning with customer needs.

In addition, the company held a groundbreaking ceremony today to celebrate the start of construction on the project. The event, hosted on the future site of the expansion, featured remarks from plant manager, Brian Wilson, CertainTeed Siding General Manager, Joe Bondi, and included a celebration recognizing the over 300 employees working at the facility.

The expansion in Williamsport, which will add training and office areas in addition to warehouse space, will allow the company to improve the customer experience by creating one centralized distribution site for all products. With this centralization, the company can ship multiple CertainTeed products in a single truckload order and the extra storage space will allow for expansion of product offerings in the region to better serve its customers. All of this comes as Saint-Gobain continues to implement its global Grow and Impact strategy, which includes expanding its presence in key, fast growing markets.

In line with Saint-Gobain’s global pursuit of carbon neutrality by 2050, sustainability will be a key component of this expansion project through the installation of new, best in class energy-saving features, such as LED lighting and high efficiency dock doors to prevent heat loss. In addition, all HVAC appliances will be electric and no natural gas will be used in the project. Once complete, the centralized location for all product storage will allow for the elimination of product transport to offsite storage and will lead to a reduction in Scope 3 transportation emissions.

“By continuing to invest in the capabilities, capacity and additional warehouse space in our Williamsport facility, we reinforce our commitment to the Williamsport Community, our colleagues at the site and to providing a best-in-class experience for customers in our largest regional market,” said Joe Bondi, Vice President and General Manager of CertainTeed Siding Products Group. “I would like to thank the entire team for their dedication to making this project a reality and their constant work as we continue to “Make the World a Better Home.’”

The Williamsport facility, which currently employs over 300 people, began operations in 1971 and is one of the largest vinyl siding plants in the United States. The plant is currently hiring for over 50 roles and expects further hiring as the expansion is completed. A complete listing of job openings at all Saint-Gobain locations, including the CertainTeed site in Williamsport, can be found on the company’s website.

Today’s announcement follows several other North American growth investments announced by Saint-Gobain in recent months:
