The Transbay project, developed by Transbay Joint Powers Authority, costs a whopping $1.1 Billion and will engender a whole new facade to the neighborhood. It is designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, and construction will be joint effort between contractors Obayashi Group and Webcor Builders.
The project features an estimated 100,000 square feet of new retail space, for the use of residents, workers, commuters and travelers alike. Nearly 1,000 new hotel rooms are expected to provide hospitality for commuters and residents of the city. This project will give rise to dramatic new skyline punctuated by a limited number of taller buildings, adjacent to the Transbay Transit Center. The landscape will feature wide sidewalks, lighting, seating, and pedestrian amenities. The crown of this establishment will be Transit Center’s 5.4-acre rooftop park.
