About Vassar Street Undergraduate Residence Hall

Upcoming new-construction undergraduate student residence hall located on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) campus in Cambridge. The five-story, 156,000-square-foot development will contain 450 beds for undergraduate students, in addition to 12 apartments for graduate resident tutors and four apartments to accommodate staff members including a faculty head of house, an associate faculty head of house, an area director and a visiting scholar.

 

Rooms at the residence hall will include singles and doubles. The residence hall will also include shared community spaces such as lounges, meeting rooms, music rooms, flexible spaces and a dining hall. The residence hall will be built to LEED Gold sustainability specifications, replacing an existing surface parking lot and the former West Garage parking structure.

 

Green spaces will be built throughout the residence hall, including a tree-filled public entry courtyard, a private courtyard for residents and a new plaza. 243 long-term and 34 short-term bicycle parking spaces will be located on site; no vehicle parking will be included. The Vassar Street Undergraduate Residence Hall is slated for completion in Fall 2020. The following are renderings of the residence hall:
