222 East Broadway Update 08/27/21

30 Story Residential Tower Rises on the Lower East Side

Down on Manhattan's Lower East Side, a new tower is coming close to topping out 232 East Broadway. General contractor, Suffolk Construction Company has now built approximately 25 floors of what will soon be a 30-story residential building.

The tower is being developed by Round Square Development and will contain 54-condominium units. It was designed by SLCE Architects and will stand 333 feet tall. It will have a total square footage of just 84,271. Renderings for the building depict a sleek, and somewhat futuristic vision of urban living, with greenery on multiple setback terraces.

A previous design was originally rendered, where two towers at 226 and 232 East Broadway would sandwich the historic pre-war style building at 228 East Broadway (pictured below). This plan was later revised to a single tower design when ownership of the project changed hands.

Building permits were issued last year, and so far construction has progressed quickly on the tower. It's not entirely yet clear when the project is expected to finish, but sometime late next year would be a reasonable estimate.
