Mid-Pinellas Recreational Complex Update 01/10/23

Voters Rejected Recreation Complex in Largo

Voters in Largo rejected the plans for a recreational complex on city land. The Largo City Commission has approved the sale of 87 acres to Porter Development, a Clearwater-based developer, that had plans for a recreational facility on the site.  The commission approval led to a referendum on the November ballot, which was turned down by the voters.  The site, near the intersection of East Bay Drive and Highland Avenue, was previously a landfill.  The planned Largo recreation complex would have included a unique mix of indoor and outdoor recreation venues that would have been the first of their kind in Pinellas County. Residents were concerned about traffic flow as well as environmental issues arising from the remediation of the landfill.
