Barry Farm Redevelopment Update 08/18/22

Barry Farm Redevelopment Receives $43M In Funding

The redevelopment of Barry Farm in Anacostia has reached a significant milestone.

The District has invested $43 million to revitalize the area through the New Communities Initiative, a fund established to revitalize severely distressed subsidized housing and redevelop neighborhoods into vibrant mixed-income communities.

The funds cover the development of the first phase, which includes infrastructure, predevelopment & vertical construction costs.

Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development announced that the construction is expected to start in September.

Plans for the development include a community center and a park located at the center of the campus.

The Asberry, a mixed-use building on the site, will have 108 units of affordable rental housing for those 55 years old and above, as well as 5,000 square feet of commercial space.
