BPDA Approves Suffolk's Plan to Convert Historic Ames Building to a Dorm

During the May Virtual BPDA Meeting the board approved Suffolk University's plan for the 1 Court Street Residence Hall. The historic Ames building which was most recently used as a hotel will be converted to a 300-bed undergraduate dorm. No changes will be made to the exterior of the building expect for new signage that will be added. On the interior, a 2nd-floor multifunction lounge and conference space will be added and the former hotel rooms will be renovated, with security updates added. The project also includes approximately 2,200 square feet of active ground floor use consisting of a student lounge and a publicly accessible restaurant space. Suffolk hopes to have the dorm open for the Fall 2020 semester although it is still unclear what form this opening will take given the current pandemic.
