Charter School Tops Out in Mott Haven
General contractor, , recently topped out the steel superstructure of a 7-story, 1,400-seat charter school, going up at 75 Canal Street West in the Bronx's Mott Haven neighborhood.
Developed by , the school will feature 40 classrooms, 8 state-of-the-art science labs, a full gymnasium with two regulation-size basketball courts, a cafetorium with a commercial kitchen, a 10,000 sqft rooftop play space, with additional outdoor play & learning spaces, a learning lab with a 100-seat lecture space, a weight and cardio room, a dance studio, a music room, and an auditorium.
The school replaces a taxi lot and garage at the square foot project site.
Designed by , the structure stands feet tall and totals approximately square feet.
Back at the start of 2023, the team secured a $209.3 million loan for the project. Issued by the Build NYC Resource Corporation; a division of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, this influx of capital is being used to fund all construction costs from start to finish. Work is ultimately expected to wrap up by the summer of 2025.
