Chicago Approves Mega-development in Bronzeville

The City Council approved the sale of 50 acres of land that used to be home to the Michael Reese Hospital and the needed rezoning of this new development. This 50 acres of land will be turned into one of the largest mega-developments in Chicago with commercial, retail, museums, parks, and a large amount of housing.

Apart from this approval will be the dedication to funding public spaces, with 10 million dollars being put towards a community center and 25 million dollars dedicated to funding Chicago Public Schools in the immediate area. This massive pre-planned development will support the existing culture and environment of the Bronzeville neighborhood by setting aside 10% of retail spaces to be dedicated to local businesses. Developers are committed to also providing upwards of 5000 affordable units, something that the city is in great need of.
