534 Coney Island Avenue Update 12/12/23

City Council Reviewing Kensington Mixed-Use Development Proposal

The City Council is currently reviewing a proposal for an 11-story, mixed-use building, which would be constructed at 534 Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn's Kensington neighborhood. Submitted by applicant, Remica Property Group Corp, the proposal is requesting zoning map and text amendments to facilitate the project.

If approved, the building would contain 43 rental apartments, with approximately 11 of those units to be reserved for affordable housing. Plans also call for 3,457 square feet of ground-floor retail space, and an enclosed parking garage, with enough room for 19 vehicles.

The lot totals 10,160 square feet and is currently occupied by a stand-alone KFC restaurant location. This would have to be demolished if the proposal is approved and the project proceeds.
