Finegold Alexander Completes York Judicial Center
Boston- Based Architecture Firm Finegold Alexander Architects Leads the planning and design for the largest judicial center in Maine
Boston-based Finegold Alexander Architects celebrated the completion of the York Judicial Center in Biddeford, Maine along with Governor Mills and many members of the Judicial Branch at the recent ribbon cutting. Finegold Alexander was selected to do the planning and design for the 118,000-square-foot Judicial Center which consolidates four existing York County Courthouses into a single Judicial Center. The new state-of-the-art judicial center includes District, Superior, Civil, and Family courts with arraignment, trial, and non-jury style courtrooms of various sizes. The building was designed with sustainability, universal accessibility, and inclusivity in mind.
Woodland views, courtrooms with natural light, clear wayfinding, and a harmonious finish palette inspired by the landscapes of York County, help mitigate the stress the public may experience when visiting a courthouse and create an inviting civic presence. Sustainability was a key component in this highly efficient project as the York Judicial Center is an all-electric building free from fossil fuel consumption with rooftop photovoltaics and 70 ground source heat exchangers. Efficient mechanical systems and a high-performance building envelope help achieve a low pEUI.
