Brill Building Update 07/21/23

Historic Midtown Office Building Trades for $216.1M

An 11-story, Class-B commercial building, located at 1619 Broadway in Manhattan's Midtown West neighborhood, has just been sold for $216.1 million. The historic structure was purchased by Mack Real Estate Group from the previous owner, Brookfield Asset Management.

Known as the "Brill Building", it was originally constructed in 1931, and is famous for containing music industry offices and studios, where many great artists, such as Carole King, Neil Diamond, and Paul Simon, wrote some of America's most popular songs.

The 177,792-square-foot building currently contains 160,000 square feet of office space (including a 9,200-square-foot penthouse), and 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.

Despite various renovations over the years, bringing the building up to modern standards for tenants, the structure has continuously maintained its original aesthetic and historic charm, which is especially evident in the common spaces and on the exterior. In December 2010, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission also declared the Brill Building a protected city landmark.
