Large Hospital Expansion Breaks Ground in Bay Shore
General contractor, Construction, recently broke ground on a 6-story addition at South Shore University Hospital (SSUH), in the Long Island hamlet of Bay Shore.
Excavation and site preparations are currently in full swing as subsurface utilities are installed and initial foundation work begins.
Developed by healthcare provider, , and known simply as the " South Shore University Hospital Pavilion", the expansion will consist of 90 private patient rooms (boosting SSUH's inpatient bed count to 400), 10 operating rooms, and three additional procedure rooms.
The expansion will also create new green areas, public spaces, and a sky bridge that connects to the main hospital building.
Designed by , the pavilion will total approximately square feet.
The project is expected to cost $468 million and funding is being provided exclusively by . Construction is expected to take until the spring of 2025.
The new pavilion represents a significant capital improvement for the hospital, which has been rated one of the nation’s 50 best hospitals for heart surgery and is now a flagship hospital for 's operations within Long Island's Suffolk County.
