100 Claremont Avenue Update 07/23/21

New Campus Tower Rises in Morningside Heights

A brand new 42-story tower is currently rising at 100 Claremont Avenue in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. Developers, Lendlease, and L+M Development Partners are jointly working on the mixed-use project which will expand the campus of Union Theological Seminary by adding 165 residential units, faculty housing, classrooms, and administrative office space.

Lendlease's in-house general contractor, Lendlease (US) Construction Inc, is currently working to add floors to what will soon be a 466-foot tall structure, amassing 345,096 square feet. A quick count of the completed stories indicates that the tower has at least 10 more floors to go before topping out.

A significant amount of facade work has also been started, giving us a small glimpse of how seamlessly the building's visual aesthetic will blend in with the campus' English Gothic revival architecture. The building was designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, with SLCE Architects being the architect of record.

Union Theological Seminary campus sits across the street from affiliated Columbia University. The hilly terrain of Morningside Heights, combined with the campus' higher elevation means that 100 Claremont Avenue will be visible for miles in every direction. Construction of the project will complete sometime in 2023.
