Redesigned Tower Tops Out on Upper East Side

General contractor, CM & Associates, has just topped out the 28-story superstructure of a residential tower, going up at 249 East 62nd Street on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

Developed by , the tower is set to contain condo units. Plans also call for several tenant amenities including a fitness center, a sauna, and a steam room. In addition to residential space, the structure will have square feet of retail space, located on the ground floor.

Back in 2017, prior to approval, a preceding set of plans was brought forth by Third Palm Capital and Rafael Vinoly Architects, calling for a much taller development on the property. Known as the "tower on stilts", it would've totaled over 152,000 square feet and stood 510 feet tall. Since then, this rather unusual design was either scrapped or heavily revised, with an entirely new project team taking the reigns.

The new plans on the other hand show a considerably downsized tower, taking on a less radical form. Designed by INC Architecture & Design, with SLCE as the architect of record, it will stand feet tall and total square feet. Construction is estimated to finish towards the end of 2023.
