Suffolk Wins Gold in Two Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards™ for Leadership Development Program

Suffolk, one of the largest and most innovative real estate and construction enterprises in the country, has won two Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards™ for its Management Excellence Academy, which Suffolk created in partnership with leadership development firm Entelechy. The Management Excellence Academy won Gold in the Best Advance in Leadership Development category and Gold in the Best Development Program for Frontline Leaders category.

The 2023 Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards™ recognize best practices for initiatives in Learning and Development, Talent Management, Leadership Development, Talent Acquisition, Human Resources, Sales Performance, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and the Future of Work.

Suffolk’s Management Excellence Academy is a two-day program for people managers that develops participants’ key management skills, such as guiding important discussions with their team members, administering productive feedback, providing supportive coaching, and leading difficult conversations. Participants also develop emotional intelligence skills, which support success in all aspects of leadership. This program supports participants with live training, opportunities for self-reflection, and practical tools to lead these critical discussions.

“Suffolk is pleased to be honored, along with Entelechy, for our Management Excellence Academy, which is now a cornerstone in our leadership development curriculum,” said Suzanne Roeder, Chief Growth Officer of Suffolk. “To date, more than 300 Suffolk managers have completed the program. Our people are our greatest asset, and programs like Management Excellence Academy are critical to equip our managers with the tools and resources they need to both support their teams and to develop themselves.”

Entries were evaluated by a panel of veteran, independent senior industry experts, Brandon Hall Group analysts, and executives based on these criteria: alignment to their business need and environment; program design, functionality and delivery; adoption, integration, user experience, innovation and creativity; and overall effectiveness, impact and measurable benefits of the program.

“Our award winners are relentless in their pursuit of excellence,” said Brandon Hall Group Chief Executive Officer Mike Cooke. “We have received some of the most innovative use of HCM strategy that we have seen in the last 30 years, and in most cases, technology and collaboration across departments have helped them achieve amazing business results.”

This year, Suffolk earned its third consecutive Great Place to Work Certification™ and was named by FORTUNE as a Best Workplace in Construction. These two award programs are entirely informed by employee feedback, in which employees highlight Suffolk’s people-first culture, caring environment, and myriad learning and development opportunities. Management Excellence Academy is one example of Suffolk’s learning programs that support employees’ growth, in addition to Career Start, a two-year rotational program for recent college graduates who are passionate about the opportunity to grow their career in construction management, and We Are Suffolk, an immersive learning and acculturation experience for all new employees, among others.

These programs create a vibrant employee experience and supportive network that is the foundation for Suffolk’s success, allowing the company to complete some of the most complex and sophisticated projects across the country, including the South Station Redevelopment Tower in Boston, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport Terminal C Renovation project, and the renovation of the iconic Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
