Central Park Tower Update 07/29/21

Tallest Residential Building in the World Nearly Complete

Construction is wrapping up for Central Park Tower located at 217 West 57th Street in Midtown. Extell Development Company's 1,550-foot tall tower is an incredible engineering achievement with some major credentials. It's both the tallest residential building in the world and the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere by roof height.

Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, Central Park Tower stands 131-stories tall and will contain just 179 luxury units. Incredibly, no units will be available beneath the 32nd floor in order to ensure that every residence in the building includes a phenomenal view of either Central Park or Lower Manhattan.

Currently, Lendlease Construction is working to finish the facade on the first few floors, as well as on a couple of higher sections. They are also in the process of adding a section to the 5th floor of the flagship Nordstrom store; located at the base of the building.

In addition to its height records mentioned above, Central Park Tower has held a Guinness World Record for the tallest cantilevered building in the world since it topped out in 2019. This is fitting as the tower now represents the pinnacle of New York City's developer push to create the tallest, most lavish, and most striking residential structures in the country. Work is finally expected to wrap up sometime this year and construction costs will total $3 billion by the time of completion.
