Tampa City Council Rejects Plans for Condominium Development on Bayshore
The Tampa City Council has rejected the plans by developer Related Group for a new luxury condominium tower on Bayshore Boulevard. The tower was planned for a portion of the property of the Congregation Rodeph Sholom synagogue. Related Group had reached a deal to purchase a portion of the synagogue’s property. The development faced opposition from neighbors, members of the congregation, and the neighboring Tampa Garden Club with the opposition stating that the project did not fit in with the surrounding area. The council agreed and voted unanimously to reject the plan. In March 2023, the developers submitted a revised plan, reducing the number of residential units from 60, which was not enough for those opposing the plan. Under the terms of the agreement, the synagogue would remain in its current building on the site, the section of the property to be acquired by Related Group is the parking lot and nursery school. The first floor would be a parking garage, which would include parking for the synagogue. Related Group has not commented on the decision, and it is unknown if the plan will be abandoned or revised.
