The aforementioned project has 19 rooms on Level 7 of the research facility located at 7144 13th Place NW, Washington DC 20012, which shall house animals used in research. Owner is therefore requesting that DC allow the standards outlined in NFPA 150 to be accepted as an alternate method of design ...Alternate Methods of Design and Construction. The aforementioned project has 19 rooms on Level 7 of the research facility located at 7144 13th Place NW, Washington DC 20012, which shall house animals used in research. Owner is therefore requesting that DC allow the standards outlined in NFPA 150 to be accepted as an alternate method of design and construction of the 19 rooms in question (see attached memo and supporting drawings). Children's National is not seeking a modification to the building Codes but instead acceptance of the standards of NFPA 150 for the aforementioned area only. 1) Are there specific individual reasons that make the application of the strict letter of the Construction Codes impractical? YES Children's National is requesting that the District of Columbia accept NFPA 150 for Animal Housing Facilities as a permissible standard at this facility. Please see attached memo. NFPA 150 would allow certain modifications of the existing fire alarm notification system in specific portions of the building that are classified as animal housing areas in accordance with the following scope provisions of NFPA 150._ 2) Is the requested modification is in compliance with the intent and purpose of the Construction Codes? YES Children's National is requesting that the District of Columbia accept as a permissible standard at this facility - NFPA 150 for Animal Housing Facilities. NFPA 150 has been in place for decades, but has not been incorporated into the DC code standards or amendments used in Washington DC. NFPA 150 would allow certain Children's National to perform minor modifications of the existing fire alarm notification system, in specific portions of the building, that are classified as animal housing areas in accordance with the following scope provisions of NFPA 150.
