About Gallaudet 6th Street (Parcel 4)

The roughly 78,936 sq. ft. that makes up parcel 4 will be developed into an approximately 120-foot, 647-unit residential development at 1331 5th Street NE, directly behind Union Market.
Plans were revealed by Gallaudet University and JBG SMITHA in a second-stage planned unit development (PUD) filed with the DC Zoning Commission.
Parcel 4 is part of Gallaudet University's 1.5 million SF 2022 Campus Plan to deliver over 450,000 square feet of office and administrative space, 129,000 square feet of retail, and up to 1,769 residential units.
"The Project incorporates a series of outdoor experiences for residents through the use of private and communal terraces and for visitors and retail patrons with the entry plaza on 5th Street," application documents stated. "The ground floor plan also includes private outdoor terrace spaces for use by retail tenants, further generating a pedestrian vibrancy throughout the public realm surrounding the Property."
The 650-unit development will have 33,500 square feet of retail space and approximately 345 parking spaces. Roughly 10% of the residential units will be affordable.
