About MIT.nano
222 Memorial Drive, Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02142
MIT.nano is a four-story, 200,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility for nanotechnology, materials science and engineering systems research.
The basement level contains nanoscale imaging facilities, the first and second floors contain clean rooms and the third floor contains maker spaces and teaching labs. MIT.nano’s top floor houses the building’s mechanical system units.
A new courtyard for the MIT community has been constructed as part of the project. MIT.nano occupies the footprint of MIT’s former Building 12, which was demolished in 2015.
Construction of MIT.nano’s basement used materials that limit vibration and electromagnetic interference to meet requirements for nanoscale imaging.
The building’s air filtration and ventilation system feature state-of-the-art environmentally sustainable features including heat recovery for building exhaust, variable drives on motors to minimize energy consumption based on need, lowest pressure drop ductwork and properly sized exhaust devices for optimal efficiency.
LEED certification for MIT.nano is in progress.
