About Tufts University Science and Engineering Complex (SEC)
200 College Avenue, Medford, MA
175,000-square-foot hub of innovation, research and collaboration for science and engineering disciplines located on Tufts University's campus steps from the future College Avenue station on the MBTA Green Line Extension. The SEC, which opened in Fall 2017, features a new-construction laboratory addition totaling approximately 79,000 square feet, as well as the renovated and upgraded Anderson and Robinson Halls, which total approximately 96,000 square feet.
The SEC features wet lab space, core facilities, imaging suites, a mass spectrometer suite, teaching labs, meeting rooms and social spaces such as a café, an indoor atrium, an outdoor plaza and common rooms. The SEC is flexibly designed to allow for creation of additional laboratory and collaborative space as demand grows.
The SEC is a key component of Tufts' Science and Technology Corridor, a string of laboratories, offices, classrooms and collaborative space along Boston Avenue in Medford dedicated to supporting STEM education and research. Extending from College Avenue to Harvard Street, the SciTech Corridor also includes the Tufts University Science and Technology Center, the Collaborative Learning and Innovation Complex (CLIC) which opened in 2015 and a new Central Energy Plant which will lower Tufts' greenhouse gas emissions. The SEC is built to LEED Platinum sustainability specifications.
