About NIH Surgery, Radiology & Lab Medicine Building

The National Institutes of Health intends to construct a new Surgery, Radiology, and Laboratory Medicine (SRLM) Building on the existing Bethesda Campus. The new SRLM will be an addition to the West Wing of the existing Critical Research Center (CRC) that will provide new space to accommodate the relocation of General Radiology and Imaging Services (RADIS), the Department of Perioperative Medicine (DPM), the Department of Laboratory Medicine (DLM), the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute’s (NHLBI) Cardiovascular Intervention Program (Cath Lab) and the Interventional Radiology (IR) Program.
The building is planned as a state-of-the-art, safe, functionally efficient, flexible, and cost-effective facility to include 9 levels above grade (including interstitial floors and a roof penthouse) and 2 levels below grade. The 629,440 building gross square feet includes 547,290 BGSF of new construction that is directly linked to the West Lab Wing of the existing CRC, which will include an additional 82,150 BGSF of renovation.
