King County Solid Waste sponsors a program that allows the public to turn in and dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge. We set up in local parking lots for a 1 day or 3 day event where we collect hazardous waste for proper disposal. The 2021 Kirkland event will run from May 7th through May 9th. It will be held at the Kirkland Fred Meyer. The event will be limited to the parking lot. We will set up the site on the Thursday before the event and break down the site the Monday after the event. We typically have about 400 participants total. We set up two canopies, 20ft x20ft and 20 ft x30 ft, and will have 2 through lanes for the waste drop off. The traffic pattern for the event will be a loop through the parking lot. The public is required to stay in their vehicles while driving through the site. The household hazardous waste materials we collect are segregated and packaged according to the attached Handling Plan and are transported to the Clean Harbors Kent TSDF where they are then transported to our disposal facilities throughout the country for appropriate recycling or disposal. No material is stored onsite. There will be no food served, heating or cooling mechanical features, cooking food or band or live music.
